Lynn Margulis Symposium-A Life in Science: in Memory and Celebration

The University of Massachusetts, in collaboration with the family and friends of Lynn Margulis (1938-2011), cordially invites you to a Symposium, March 23-25, 2012, celebrating her life and work. Although the Symposium is still in its early planning stages, we wanted to alert you and other interested parties you may know in order to provide the lead-time needed to save these dates and arrange for travel to and from Amherst, Massachusetts.

We are very excited about this opportunity to gather in memory of Professor Margulis, and to explore the history, importance, and future of her intellectual accomplishments.

As plans take shape, they will be posted to

8th International Chrysophyte Symposium

Dear friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the Eighth International Chrysophyte Symposium wil be held on August 12 - 17, at Charles University of Prague, Czech Republic. The symposium will provide a forum to present work on all aspects of chrysophyte investigations including biodiversity, evolution, ecology, systematics, and experimetal morphology. Although the overriding theme of the symposium will be focused on chrysophytes, researchers whose primary focus is on any allied heterokont group will be also welcome.

There will be opportunities for participants to present both short talks and posters, which will be conducted interactively with plenty of time reserved for questions and discussions. Presentations of research-in-progress by young investigators are strongly encouraged. There will be no concurrent sessions. Any suggestions for coverage of specific topics in a workshop or panel format will be welcome. As in the previous chrysophyte symposia, the proceedings will be published as a separate volume of the Nova Hedwigia, Beiheft.

Thank you very much for your kind cooperation!

With best regards,
Jiri Neustupa
